The Silent Canals
Before the party boats arrive, the canals of Xochimilco are a different world entirely. Quiet water, mist still sitting on the surface, and just the sound of your paddle. We head out at sunrise to experience this side of the canals, gliding past the chinampas (the floating gardens that have shaped this part of the city for centuries) and keeping an eye out for the herons and other wildlife that call the canals home.
Your guide is a local expert, and shares the history, agriculture, and culture of Xochimilco as you paddle. It’s one of the most peaceful ways to spend a morning in Mexico City, and a world away from the trajineras and music you’ll find here later in the day.
